New Theories / Plasma gun possibility?

Not exactly a theory, but, aside from power requirements, creating a usable plasma gun, that can actually hit and damage a target at .. well.. any distance, is the fact, that plasma is very light PLUS pretty much the only decent way to accelerate something that hot is to use electric fields and accelerate only the same-charged particles, which will repel each other immediately after exiting the accelerating tube, thus cooling and slowing down rapidly..
But what about a relatively simple (at least partial) solution: use two barrels right next to each other - one accelerates and spits out positive particles, but the other accelerates negative ones so that when both type of particles exit the nozzle (or enter one, united nozzle), they get attracted to each other and become neutral, thus not expanding THAT rapidly after exit.. ?
