Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Strangest animals and how they evolved....

Hello everyone,
I'm building up a collection of evolutionary curiosities: strange intermediate life forms (like the half horse-half whale that became the ancestor of all whales and dolphins) and bizzare dead ends like the strange creatures from the Cambrian Explosion. I'm looking for animals whose weirdness is physically striking. Although of course they don't have to be animals, but I think I'd rather focus on life forms that are visible with the naked eye.
I'd like to draw these creatures for a website, and also write about them in a University paper. So if you could point me to pictures or peer-reviewed science in addition to giving me a name, that would be wonderful. But I'll be happy to take anything you've got!
Thanks,
Sandra
