I need surgery on my spine
« on: 02/10/2007 18:45:02 »
I went to the hospital today as my neck was hurting after the car crash yesterday. Had my neck X-rayed. There was no damage from the accident but the doctor did find things that he didn't like the look of.

I injured my back about 25 years ago & the damage the doc saw today was probably due to that. He said they'd found what sounded like "a number of residual changes". He asked me if I'd ever been advised that surgery might be necessary. I said that I'd been told years ago that I might need an operation 1 day. He advised me to go to my GP to see about having the operation sometime soon.

I'm not a happy beaver  [:(]

I can't be sure he actually did say "residual" changes, but that's what it sounded like. Does anyone know if that's right & what it means? And what surgery would be required?

Sometime soon.  You are not in a bad shape, in good condition for a second opinion and for getting all the information needed.
Do not worry too much: neurosurgeons are doing marvilous things these days...for kids around here, and may be beavers down there! [;)]

I just don't fancy the idea of having a scalpel near my spine. What if the surgeon sneezes!?  [:(]

Our consultant neurosurgeon is a very smart woman:
you'd trust her for sure but...she does children only!

Take care  [;)]

I'm not even sure what surgery is involved. I think it may be a fusing of some of the vertebrae.

You'll be exhaustively informed pretty soon, I hope.
Fixing vertebrae prevents bad injuries in case of trauma.
Orthopedics sneeze so rarely, don't worry.
