Quite often I don't use a website address that I happen to like a lot because it's too long for a post of this size.

I would like to know how to shorten it to make the Website Address/Hyperlink
to show "Rosalind Franklin" basically just a brief message to explain what it
is about.

when you click the reply button you are given extra posting options such as smilies...Now, look where it says more options, and click the icon for "insert hyperlink".

you will now have this text in your reply: [ url][/url] (i have added a space, otherwise the text will not show in this reply)

to add a link simply make that text look like this

[ url=http://www.link to somewhere.com] [/url]

insert your descriptive text so it looks like this:

[ url=http://www.link to somewhere.com]a discription of the link here. [/url]

remember, i have added a space after the first bracket, you do not need to.

your link does not work because you have not included a web address, you have just put the words 'Roslind at Kings' pic'.
click the icon to modify your post, remove the words and insert the web address...

No, there is no web address in your post...no url

possibly the easiest way for you to figure this out is to quote this post of mine, that will give you the whole text. look at it, study the code and how the url is linked, play around with it until you are confident with it.

Where the first bit (I bolded) says it's a Google image-search
The second bit (not bold) is the original URL of the IMAGE you clicked on from the image-search results
The next bit (italicised) is the original URL of the page which Google found which featured the image you clicked on
The stuff after that is Google telling itself the size of the image (w and h), that your home language is English, that the image you clicked on was showed on a search-results page which began with the 36th image-result (ie the third page), and that the terms you searched for were "rosalind franklin" (without quotes).
Some of the other gobbledygook may (or may not) be Google-assigned "unique" identifiers for you.
You might not necessarily want to be divulging all this information anyway ;-)

URLs of this form use an ampersand & to demarcate each parameter i.e. of the form
 blahblah&paramA=value&paramB=value&paramC=va...
The last section of your specimen URL (beginning &prev) is the previous page you were on and has become "URL encoded", so the = signs from that complex URL have got replaced by %3D, spaces by %2D, and & signs by %26 etc. The number following the % sign is the ASCII value of the coded character, expressed in hexadecimal.

If you'd rather not hand-unpick the URL, the solution for your Google result would be, on the page you linked to, to follow the link at the top which says
Below is the image in its original context on the page: profiles.nlm.nih.gov/KR/B/B/J/R/
Click this link at the right, which takes you to the original page without all the Google kerfuffle, grab that URL, and post it to the forum! Simple :-)

I have just tried to change it by using that long URL and just
deleted most of it, it worked as you can see.

Also how do I make a URL or site address smaller so that I can make it my own message thing. "Rosalind at Work" for an example.
That is something I have often wondered at.
