What are the differences between Albueterol and Flovent and their benefits?
« on: 09/06/2008 16:48:17 »
Ok I know Flovent inhaler is a steroid or costeroid and works over several days and not immediately.

Albuterol is not and is for immediate help to open bronchial tubes etc etc..

why do I need both and My understanding is they do basically the same things right? Just over time and immediate.. steroid verses no steroid..???

I worry about taking a steroid???

could someone explain the differences in layman's terms for miss dim wit here! I don, get why I need 2.

I did not pass a blow test..(oh dang), where you blow as hard as you can into a little gadget, that I think, reads my lungs air pressure? ..Lol... just occurred to me why couldn't  I just blow on a tire gauge..Lol... filler up please and while your at it could you check my lung pressure..... " LOL!!!! hee hee.. sorry.. me quite silly...right now!!
anyway
I couldn't get it to 100 and the Doctor said I should be well above 375 or something like that, for a women my age.. there was a lot of wheezing in my lungs with the lack of air... she said my bronchial tubes have shrunk down and closed up to a too tiny of an opening...

So she prescribed these with very little instruction as to how to use them or for exactly what they are for!!

Please enlighten me!

Hi Karen!

Follow your doctor's advice without too much panic about steroids...it's always a matter of dose and time.
Albuterol relaxes your little bronchi, while steroids decrease inflammation.
So they indeed do different things to sort out a final common effect:
Karen will breath much better!
Let us know the results and take care (do not panic! [;)])

Thanks Iko.. At least now I know the difference... Hey the Flovent says to rinse my mouth and Spit it out and not swallow after use.. does that mean after the first puff or after the full 2 puff treatment?

Well, 2puffs should be the recommended dose, so rinse just once after that.

Thanks Iko.. I wasn't sure.. I tried to get through to the doctor today to ask her, but

she was out.. so I appreciate the answer.. Thanks! Will talk to her tomorrow. I am

taking all my pills and inhalers and yeast and everything in tomorrow and dumping them

on her desk and hoping for an answer... We are going over it all and then I hope she

has some news for me other then shaking her head and not knowing.. I really like her

and believe she is doing her best.. I just hope tomorrow is filled with good things.. I

have a card for a Doctor  at Stanford I am trying to get into see.

His Name is: Paul J. Wang, MD

Professor, Cardiovascular Medicine Director, Cardiac Arrhythmia service and Cardiac

electrophysiology labroratory...Stanford University Medical center.

I have had a really high recommendation about his work, but I don't know if he is who I

need to see or not.. but When we get the ok I will find out for sure...A friend has

recommended him... for my last options.. Got my fingers crossed and hope something pans

out. My cough is some better now with that second inhaler it seems to help.. giving me

a bit of relief and easier breathing..

Thank goodness I thought I was going to start

sounding like Darth Vader all the time... LOL!!

"Luuuukeh Iyyyyh ammmm yourrrrrrh fatherrrh...." LOL Hee hee..

How the heck does one WHEEZE on the computer.. ??? LOL and I

don't mean WHIZ on the computer.... LOL,,,,, thats more up Neily's side of the

street!!!! LOL Hee hee...  [;)] [:D] [;D]  As I recall He is really into WEE! [;)] He'd know how.. for

sure!! Hee hee hee! [;)] [:D]

I have such a wheeze that it gets really bad periodically during the day!

Will this type of Steroid blow my face up bigger then it already is.. like with

prednisones etc??? Cause, I am already mistaken for a hot air balloon around here,

and that will only make matters worse!!! [;)] [;D]  Someone will have to pop me soon![;)] [:D] [;D]
