Well I borrowed some DVDs from my friend and I want to save all the movies in my PC so I can watch them again next time. But how..?

Strictly speaking, copying your friends DVDs would be illegal if they are copyrighted.
If you bought a DVD of a movie and were making a copy for your own personal use that could be legal ...

there is some dubiety over whether it is legal to copy DVDs for your own use,

Although, I would never condone your doing anything such as copying a DVD without appropriate permission (  [] ) I can tell you that there are plenty of free DVD rippers available - this one, for instance.

Not according to RIAA, any copying, for whatever reason is illegal. Unless you have permission, that is.

There used to be a couple of fair-use caveats to copying copyrighted works for your own use that were first established when cassette recorders became popular i.e. for back-up purposes (to prevent loss through damage or deterioration of the original media) and to allow you to use the work privately in other places i.e. in your car.  I believe these were established in courts of law.  See:
