Hello,

I'm an English musician living in Germany and I'm a regular subscriber to the Naked Scientist Podcast.

A good friend of mine is convinced that he has come up with a form of "Over Unity" using magnets on a wheel, and in an attempt to convince him that such a thing is impossible I set about (using Google and YouTube I hasten to add) searching for a decent explanation of the "Principle of conservation of energy" that would explain why his models aren't working, and could never work.

During my search I came across the experiments of Nikola Tesla & Alexander Sinetzki. I would like to know if their experiments which seemed to tap in to an unexplained energy source have since been revised, or if there are still unanswered questions.

It would also be great if you could brush upon the fantastic claims of the Australian LUTEC people who claim to have achieved an over unity of 2617,998% on one of their devices.

LUTEC:

Any "something for nothing" claim is very suspect. The words used on the website are very revealing. "Amplifying Electricity" is a meaningless concept because "electricity" has no units - it is a general terms, describing the phenomenon in general.

I did not look at the website for long but I could point out that, on the picture (still) of the system working, the so-called Power meters may well not be measuring actual Power. It is very easy to produce very high AC voltages and very high AC currents which actually transfer very little Power. I suspect that Power Factor has been used in an attempt to hoodwink investors into believing what is actually impossible.
