Shawn asked the Naked Scientists:
Dear Chris,
Love the show
catch all the
podcasts
you guys rock..
My question is, why isn't there more attention given on the green energy debate to use coca plants and opium poppies as a fuel source?
Seem to me like it's a great potential energy source that is already grown in large numbers and since they can turn almost anything into biofuels why not use something that we want to get rid of anyway and would drive the price down.
Spread the word, my friends think I'm a genius for thinking of that one!
lol
Would love to here your comments on the
podcast

Seriously, this idea has merits - particularly if you look at hemp (canabis)
Hemp grows in a wide variety of climates, and produces abundant seeds that can be used to make ("biofuel")oil and also has cellulose rich stalks suitable to produce ethanol.
I understnad from ne'er do well friends that Afganistan is particularly well suited for growing hemp...
