Why Can't A Nuclear reactor Be Made Small To Go Inside My Car ?
« on: 15/09/2009 10:10:01 »
Dearest TNS Contributors Whom We Depend Upon So Much...(we all luff ewe, ewe know ?)

*le sigh*

As a sheepy I of course can do lots of things for long periods of time without having to refuel. Often, I have gone without food for up to ten minutes !..now THAT is something !

In the world of nuclear engineering though, refuelling need not be for extraordinarily long lengths of time.....sometimes hours...even days !!..phew ! This is because nuclear power lasts a long time due to being actively powered by lots of radios !

Look here are some fine examples of Nuclear Powered Stuff:

 [ Invalid Attachment ]
A Nuclear Power Station

 [ Invalid Attachment ]
A Nuclear Ship

 [ Invalid Attachment ]
A Nuclear Submarine

 [ Invalid Attachment ]
A Nuclear Bunny Wabbit

As ewe can see, the majority of the stuff is big....why's that then ?...except for the bunny. why can't they miniaturise a nuclear reactor to sit in my car ?  It's simple !..all ewe need do is make it the same as a regular nuclear motor but make all the components smaller !! ..it's obvious isn't it ?...Blatant even ! Why has no one figured that one out yet ?

whajafink ?

Ford actually designed one back in the 1950's http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=3359

Doubtless the oil giants would dwell on the safety aspects.

There's probably one in some out-of-town used car lot somewhere in Michigan. Should you come across one, an eBay member by the screen name of 'osram bin loading' seems very keen to purchase one or two.

I wouldn't mind a nuclear reactor for my secret base, I might build one. How hard could it be?

Both the USA and the USSR developed nuclear power plants of such a size and power to be useful in a car but there would be shielding and licensing problems not to mention cost.

Doc figured it out in "Back To The Future" and had one retrofitted to the DeLorean. His was based on fusion (rather than fission) which could be a lot safer. Now all we need to do is get fusion to work. Easy!
