It is my anecdotal observation, at least from what I see on this forum (and I realise that anecdotal evidence should always be treated with great caution), that there are probably more women who believe in some sort of God than men, but that it is the men who are more in need of proof or disproof of His existence.

What I see is that it appears a great number of women quietly state that they believe in God, and yet it seems to be the men (often young men) who will vehemently argue for (or against) the absolute reality of the existence (or non-existence) of God.

I wonder if this is because men need a more rational approach to God, as to life in general.  I don't mean that men are more sensible, only that maybe men are concerned more with absolute truths, whereas women (being more socially oriented than men) are more concerned with how a belief system impacts on their relationship (both with other people, and with the world in general), and so take a more pragmatic view of the abstract logical arguments regarding God?
