What Is The 37.5MB of Data Kept In one Spermy Wermy ?
« on: 15/03/2011 21:04:47 »
Dearest Spermologists,

I learned today that one single sperm holds 37.5MB data !...now that's quite a lot considering how small they are ............Now the typical male ejaculate lasts circa 3 seconds that's a hell of a lot of data transfer !..about 1403808 gigabytes

Look here's a speedy tad !

A Speedy Tad earlier Today

Nice eh ?...being delivered to keep a ewe happy next Tuesday !! :-)

So, what is all this data inside a sperm ?..How do they  calculate that one sperm has 37.5mb ?

I just do not know !...do ewe ?

hugs and shmishes

mwah mwah

Depends how many bits in your byte ...

Quote
Various implementations of C and C++ define a byte as 8, 9, 16, 32, or 36 bits.

The human genome is about 3 billion base pairs*. You could map that to 6 gigabits

The uses of a lowercase "b" usually refers to bits, so Neil's number strikes me as being a tad low.

It does look low, doesn't it?
Could it be that many of the pairs are non-active now - evolutionary fossils of out-of-date commands.
Either that or our spermy friend has been using WinRar! [:D]

Unless you're 17 the 'buffering' process per transfer tends to take quite while though [;D]

That still strikes me as being a bit small. How do we "normalize" genetic "bits" with computer binary "bits"?

Am I correct in thinking a genetic "bit" can have one of four possible states, whereas an electronic "bit" usually only has two possible states?
