    I read that they navigate by reference to the moon.  They fly at a fixed angle to the moon - the moon is far enough away that a five minute flight is basically a straight line, but a light bulb is so much closer that they end up spiralling in and annoying the heck out of everyone.

    They are also attracted to candles, "like a moth to the flame".
