Dear Black & Whiteologists,

As a sheepy I of course come in two colours...Black & White !...Being black and white is all I think about. Not colour !.....and being either black or white helps me make more impact !

The same can be said for photos,

Take a look at this photo of some idiot holding a spoon taken with an el crapo mobile phone (US translation service: Mobile phone = Cell Phone...sheesh !)

Now, turn it black and white...

............and all of a sudden the the photo becomes a bold statement of contemporary art, A stark cold insight into the oblique abandonment of a world in chaos. An allegorical contrast that highlights the biomorphic collage of negative space in a one-point linear perspective hue.

So, why does a Black and White Photo offer more impact than a colour one ?

My personal feeling on this, is the contrast. Monochrome pictures have a greater contrast impact than colour (US = color) pictures.

As a monochrome sheepy, what nursery rhyme were you taught in place of 'Bah Bah Black Sheep'? Might it have been 'Parsley, Mint, Rosemary & Gravy'?

I agree Don !.....I wonder why Monochrome Contrast has more impact !...is it because we live in a colour world perhaps ?..what's the science behind the emotional impact ?

I believe the technical terminology  is to 'cartoonify' !....The act of doing so is ' cartoonifying '......Once completed ..it has been ' cartoonified '



Wasn't it that frenchy philospher chap who said:

"Cogito ergo Cartoon": English: "I cartoon, therefore I exist") it's a philosophical Latin statement proposed by René Descartes !!

In my opinion:
1. Because it leaves more space to our imagination
2. because it reminds us of old --> ancient --> mysterious things.

I remember some old BW science fiction movies which, objectively, have litte "content" but that really impressed me when I was a boy, in the 80' (colour movies already existed []) because of the feelings they conveyed to me.

Monochrome images can be much higher contrast than a typical colour image : the eye is drawn to high contrast.
