Can you have Windows-Linux dual-boot on a Windows-8 computer ?
« on: 23/05/2013 01:31:42 »
Windows-8 has a secure booting system which apparently can prevent dual-booting with Linux ...

Is it possible to dual-boot Windows-8 & Linux, (e.g. Linux Puppy on a USB stick) ?,

Thanks Syhprum. Did you have to do something special to permit this ? ,
(e.g. disable the UEFI secure booting feature),
or did the [Puppy] Linux system boot from USB stick as with previous Windows OSes .

Others believe this is not possible ...

No Linux booting on Windows8 machines?

What about a Puppy Linux Live CD? It runs entirely in RAM and doesn't require HDD access.?

It still requires a bootloader…?

I simply went into system manager created a new 50Gb partition on the hard drive then loaded in the Linux system, when the computer boots I am asked if I want linux or windows 8 and I am given 10 seconds to choose
I also have no problem running Linux Puppy memory resident from a USB Dongle
I am away in indianapolis at the moment so I have to take great care what I do on this computer.
