ok, you are correct. Please add "to humans' to the end of my post.Rosalind, unfortunately I don't know much about the jellyfish that live in other parts of the world. Just the Australian ones... sorry.
sounds dangerous to pick 1 up [xx(]
There are non poisonous jellyfish.. (eg they will sting, but not kill) here in Australia we are surrounded by them (all types). Generally speaking though, jellyfish without colour are ok.. unless you are swimming along the north coast of Australia, in which case the iracongi (irukundji) which are small and colourless and extremely deadly may be lurking. Unfortunately, not even the ever present great white Australian sharks will combat the little irunkundji so it's best to just stick to waters where the great whites play (eg the rest of Australia) Red back, funnel web, blue ringed octopusTaipan, Tiger snake, Adderbox and Jellyfishstone fish and the poison thing that lives in a shell, that spikes you when you pick it upCome to AustraliaYou might accidentally get killedYour lifes constantly under threatHave you been bitten yet? You've only got 3 minutes leftBefore a massive coronary breakdownRed back, funnel web, blue ringed octopusTaipan, Tiger snake, Adderbox and JellyfishBig shark, just waiting for you to go swimmingAt Bondi BeachCome onCome to AustraliaYou might accidentally get killedYour blood is bound to be spilledWith fear your pants will beFilledBecause you might accidentally get killedScared Weird Little Guys.

I have learnt how to avoid jellyfish. Not that they come up the River Thames often.
