Astronomy VS astrology what connections are there? Did one arise from the other or are they completely separate fields. Do you know of any connection?

From early written and archaeological records, people associated the Sun, Moon, Planets and Constellations with deities which controlled and/or influenced events on Earth.
- So it was important to track these regular motions - for pragmatic purposes such as planting crops, and for perceived purposes such as understanding the mood of the gods, determining how best to make the gods happy, etc
- Less-regular events like a total eclipse could spread widespread terror if they weren't predicted and the population warned in advance. I heard of a Chinese astronomer who was executed because he didn't predict a total eclipse. That meant the emperor didn't have soldiers on top of high hills, shooting arrows at the dragon that was swallowing the Sun. That might have given some ignorant peasants the impression that the emperor wasn't in total control of the universe.
- Irregular events like the appearance of comets and supernovas caused lots of consternation - did it mean something good for the king, or something bad?

The Antikythera Mechanism shows that some ancient societies had a good handle on the more predictable events.
- But in Europe, it was really Galileo's application of the telescope to discover the moons of Jupiter and phases of Venus that introduced modern astronomy.
- Kepler's laws of planetary motion provided the basis for calculating the orbits of the Moon and planets with great precision (using ellipses instead of circles like Galileo and rolling circles like earlier practitioners).   

PS: Today scientists would say that the path of the Sun affects seasons, game migrations and food crops (important for all communities), while the Sun and the Moon together affect the tides (important for coastal communities).
- But the planets and constellations have no detectable impact (despite claims about horoscopes and "planetary alignments")
- A close supernova or a comet impact definitely could have a major impact on the Earth.

Astrology is pretending that those bodies influence our fates by some mystical mechanism.

One tool that astronomy uses that was derived from astrology is the use of the celestial signs this is the 12 segregated regens of the sky. The sun is in Leo it will be a hot day unless it is not a hot day.LOL.

Nowadays, probably, this is a manipulation with known regularities, patterns, an algorithm, which one may jungle in front of the public and show ‘predicted’ things to become true, make people believe in them.

Some years ago I was building an exceptionally sensitive thermometer with microdegree resolution, right on the limit of analog and digital electronics at the time. My lab technician had the same birthday and sense of humor as myself, so we always read The Perishers (consistently brilliant) and our horoscope, in the Daily Mirror. Only one horoscope remains in my memory: "It would be better to leave electrical repairs to an expert." Who were we to doubt the wisdom of the universe? So we spent the day tidying the workshop and doing paperwork.
