What could cause high blood pressure in the morning?
« on: 17/12/2017 10:45:29 »
I might have essential hypertension. In the early morning, my blood pressure frequently rise up to 140/100 mmHG, and decrease to 130/90 mmHG after I take my medication. What could cause this variation of blood pressure in the morning? Should I take the medication before going to bed? How can sleep affect blood pressure variation?

What do you think?

It is quite common to have slightly higher BP in the morning due to overnight rise in cortisol, and if you usually take your medication in the morning that would also contribute as medication levels would be lower.
If you think it is a real problem ask yourself whether there is a stressor your resting mind is anticipating for the next day.

Hey. My mother has a similar problem. Blood pressure usually decreases during sleep. Then it returns to your normal level before you wake up.
Many people with high blood pressure have such a good form of control throughout the day, but high rates in the mornings. Here are a few reasons why this can happen
Your pills can be ineffective within 24 hours. You may need to split your pills in half. In the morning, take half the dose. Take the second half of the night. Of course, first consult a doctor.
For reasons that are not entirely clear, some people will have better control of blood pressure all day if they take their pills before going to bed, not in the morning. Therefore, talk with your doctor about switching all your pills to a night dose.
You may have high blood pressure in the morning for reasons close to your medication. Excessive drinking can increase blood pressure. Therefore, if you drink alcohol, keep it no more than a couple drinks a day. One drink means 12 ounces of beer, 8 ounces of wine or one shot of strong alcohol. Sleep apnea is another cause of high blood pressure early in the morning. In sleep apnea, the respiratory tract is blocked or breathing stops moving. Breathing temporarily stops or becomes shallow. This can happen hundreds of times every night. Sleep apnea puts stress on the body. This increases the level of adrenaline and increases blood pressure. The most common symptoms of sleep apnea are loud snoring, poor sleep quality and excessive drowsiness throughout the day. Some people have a morning headache.
Talk with your doctor about these potential causes of high blood pressure in the womb. Most likely, some adjustments of your medicines will control your readings. In addition, maintaining a healthy weight, eating food on a plant basis and regular exercise to reduce blood pressure at all times of the day.
