It has also been shown that both men and women tend to marry people that are like their parents as this is seen as the blue print for their relationship. My husband has characteristics of both my Mum and my Dad.
Am I the only one who cringes at this idea? It's like it's implying that those people want to channel their unachieved parental incest lust.
Interesting that your mind reads a sexual thing into this  ;D
As we develop, role models are important in determining who we become and how we view other people. Obviously, an important set of role models are our parents, but they are not the only influencers; I would argue that teachers, youth leaders etc also have a big influence. Also, if you see any of these being negative role models you are likely to reject those traits in a future partner. It will also influence who you chose as friends.

If badness is being mistreated its probably the want to either diversify the geen pool away from mommy and daddy ie something different, or more likely "badness" offering some alternate option to day to day norms, allowing for new avenues of creation, creation being procreation of the species. Maybe children who have had bad childhoods seek goodness by way of diversification, only this is not recognised.

If badness is beating the living daylights out of an opponent, robing an opponent or making things work by underhand means thats just what a womens biological drive tells them. Anybody in aposition of power is seen as attractive, especially women who by biological limitations, want protecting when pregnant in the biological must of reproduction. Badness=warding off others, making gains and making it stick. Loser=trying badness and ending up canned, unsuprisingly not an attractive quality.

I agree colin, the stability of relationships and the likeness and familiarity of past experiences. But the same qualities of power and making things function are seen, only thing is that far greater functionality can be gained by good reputation and not being in prison. As I heard a fellow say a mans attractiveness is measured by the thickness of his wallet.  Experience and maturity mean new avenues and provision are seen within the realms of possibility, but there is still the factor of wanting to diversify the geen pool though, someone who the good role models dissaprove of, someone who does thing differently, darwinism and survival of the fittest.

I am sorry. It's just people around me, especially the more religious one (including my sister!) tend to say that the one person destined to be the true love of someone will look like one of their relatives. I am disgusted with this idea since to me it looks like someone who deliberately look for someone similar to their relative's appearance to channel their unfulfilled incest sexual desire.
