first of all let me begin by congratulating you on an amazing radio show, i've been listening for many years & you are an inspiration to us all, right, here's the question:

can you please tell me why it has taken so long for humans to go to the moon?, the last time we went there was during the apollo space programme & we have not been back there since.

Three major reasons.  Firstly the expense, remember it was a cold war inspired project, Secondly the risks, it was amazing that the number of missions that went worked, Robotic probes are much cheaper and don't have to be brought back.  and finally there was really nothing much to do with a short stay on the surface. 

It is not really worthwhile going back until something like a long term partially self sufficient base can be set up.
