How do flea collars work?
« on: 26/11/2020 14:31:45 »
Paul asks:

Do flea collars work on cats and dogs and how do they work? Also, do drops on the neck or back of the head work?
There are some electrical gadgets which you can plug into a power supply and they are supposed to emit a high frequency which scares off rats, mice, cockroaches and other insects. Do they work?

What do you think?

I've used flea collars with cats and dogs with some success, and the liquid antiparasitics are always applied on the nape of the neck. There are several possible explanations

1. There is nowhere else you can attach anything to a cat or dog without breaking the skin, and expect to find it in place an hour later

2. Human fleas (been there) tend to congregate in the darkest areas and where there is some constriction that brings blood close to the surface. Hence under a collar.

3. As for the liquid stuff, it's the one place that they can't lick it off.

So there may be no magic in the collar, just no other reasonable choice.

I've used ultrasound repellents to clear rats out of a loft, and cockroaches certainly make high-pitched noises but I don't know whether they find ultrasound attractive or repellent.

How Do Flea Collars Work?
flea collar

Flea collars look like tiny bands around the neck of the pets. And you must be wondering how such a small belt works and repels those insects. As soon as you put the collar around your pet’s neck, it releases some chemicals that go down the whole body through the oils  present on his fur and skin.

These chemical residues on the skin and abruptly kill the fleas that try to settle on the skin of your pets.

Similarly, the chemicals that are released by the flea collar have a strong smell. This smell also helps in killing the fleas. Along with this, there are a number of flea collars.

Each has a specific role in protecting your pet from the flea. Some kill adult fleas, while others are effective against the younger ones. Some repel the fleas, while others repel as well as kill the fleas.

Another thing that is important for the proper function of the flea collar is its fitting. If you follow the instructions given on the product, you can protect your pets easily from fleas.

The maximum results from the collar depend upon the right fitness of it around the pet’s neck. For this you need to read all the instructions given to you by the company and also know about some tips and tricks from different websites

Hey Guys,
First of all, not all flea collars for cats are the same. They all have in common that they deliver an active ingredient to your cat's fur. Many older models are made of inexpensive fabric bands soaked in insecticide and covered with an unpleasant-smelling white powder that transfers to your cat's fur over time. Newer and more sophisticated collars, on the other hand, use innovative technologies that store active ingredients inside the collar and protect your pet for longer periods of time by killing fleas and ticks for up to eight months.
Best regards :)

I don't know how well the collars work but the <<<SPAM REMOVED>>>  work wonders. Just make sure you get a decent brand. Coupled with powdering the carpets should keep them under control in the house. I haven't used <<<SPAM REMOVED>>> on an outdoor cat but when I moved the person who lived here before me didn't take care of their pets very well because soon after moving in the place was infested... completely unbearable. Treating with <<<SPAM REMOVED>>> and powdering the carpet and my problem was solved in a few weeks though I kept treating for a few months to be sure.
