Why does light travels at 186,000 miles per/sec.?

It is like guitar string. When the string is loose, it vibrates weakly, hoarsely, and brokenly, when thre string is tight, it vibrates rapidly and travels fast from end to end of string.. Other space, the spacetime of Dr. Einstein, is not perfect void. The spacetime of Dr. Einstein is indestructible, unbreakable, though intersectable, has massless skein/fabric that is super-spread, like blanket, all over outer space, and even interior of atoms.The untearable though intersectable, spacetime is super-tight,  super-tense, super-smooth that makes it frictionless after 15 billion years plus of expansion of such skein of the universe. Plus the impulse-inducing, undetectable electro-magnetic property of spacetime enlivens the speed of blending, binding electro-magnetic light at 186,000 miles per/sec.. Spacetime has electro-magnetic property, at undetectable level just like gravitational field, otherwise, electro-magnetic light would not have reached us without such medium, the equally electro-magnetic skein of spacetime which can be made to vibrate by electro-magnetic light, just like the string of guitar on which vibration is made. Thus, impingements of light photons, like plucking of guitar string, on such electtro-magnetic spacetime, creates vibration thereof, to take off at now 186,000 miles per/sec., demonstrating just how almost or perfectly even is the distribution of super-tensed, vibrated skein of spacetime all over the universe that intersects even the innermost of atoms.

Eminent Scientist Maxwell formulated, somewhere in 1864 plus, his equation on electro-magnetism which pertain to  the behaviors and relationship of both. But did not explain why the speed of light was more or less, 186,000 miles per/sec. Michelson-Morley finally established the speed of light somewhere between 1890 to 1910, but no explanation why. As a matter of fact, Dr. Einstein, after ten years baffling after Michelson-Morley experiment, cannot find explanation why light travels at such speed, finally declared “light is simply constant”!.

Something was missing in that equation of Dr. Maxwell. Electro-magnetic light needs electro-magnetic medium, now the unquestionable spacetime of Dr. Einstein, himself, which has skein, such skein has electro-magnetic property, though undetectable as it is at gravitational level, on which electro-magnetic light WAVES ..need in order to propagate. Such skein is super-tensed,  super-smooth, thus, frictionless and with electro-magnetic property, altogether, makes light waves to travel the fastest possible, that is 186,000 miles per/sec.

.Without such skein of spacetime, light photons, traveling billion of light years from distant galaxy would not have reached and contact electro-magnetic eyes intact, whole. Photons cannot contain the outer space to reach us intact, we would see now, not in next instance, for photons would distant themselves from one another, the farther the travel. But light reaches us whole and intact because pure light is waves on and of the skein of equally electro-magnetic medium, the spacetime. Here is the evidence that outer space is completely occupied by skein of spacetime, and which has electro-magnetic property, on which gravitational fields of all bodies, re-galaxies, stars, etc. in the universe also utilize such electro-magnetic skein (read posted at theory section “Why gravity is all attraction toward earth).to bind and lock such bodies to one another.

Thus, in summary, it is the super-tenseness, super-smooth that it makes frictionless, of the skein of spacetime on which light propagates, plus, the fact, thzt such spacetime has electro-magnetic property causes impulses, thereof, of electro-magnetic light travels at 186,000 miles per/sec.

I'm afraid that this doesn't advance the discussion anywhere and just invokes an additional arbitrary factor without explaining the original one.

Why does this super-tenseness and super-smoothness result in no friction, and why does this in turn mean that light travels at 186000 mps, and not a higher or lower speed?

Actually, if the speed of light was not an arbitrary value and was the value it is for a reason there would, in theory, be a way of circumventing it.  As it is though, the speed of light is one of the essentially abstract fundamentals at the core of the universe, which cannot be expressed in lower terms, and which imply that it can't be avoided.

In some ways, it can make more sense to think of the speed of light as a ratio rather than an absolute value.  Right down at the lowest level all of the units we use to measure things are defined in terms of each other and only have absolute values in the sense that they are constant relative to everything else within our four-dimensional space-time.

As an illustration, take a sheet of paper, hold it by the top corners, facing towards you; you can see how tall it is and how wide it is.  Now hold the sheet of paper roughly halfway down the sides and tilt it towards or away from you; it now looks different and no longer appears to be the same width and height, from your point of view.  However, unless you've creased the sheet of paper, you know that it's really still the same width and height as before.  For anything that existed soley within the surface of the sheet of paper, nothing would have changed, but from your 'external' point of view outside the surface of the sheet of paper, not only does it appear to have a different shape and proportions, because you're seeing it from a different angle, but it has probably bent in the middle, nicely illustrating the principle of curvature of space-time as a bonus.

Oh yes it did.
If you multiply the permittivity and permeabillity of free space together then take the square root of the reciprocal of the result you get the speed of light.

A way of looking at this is that the permittivity and permeabillity are measures of the "springyness" of space

Reiterating, the EVENNESS of the super-tenseness, stretchness of the  MASSLESS  skein/fabric of THE UNDDENIABLE spacetime (the whole outer space) is one of two   reasons that makes such  spacetime FRICTIONLESS, and makes light vibrates to travel at 186,000 miles per/sec. It is like  string of guitar which is made tight, that every time it is twanged, it vibrates the same vibration, see?
T he other reason is the inherent electro-magnetic property of spacetime and light which induces impulse of light photon impingements on such massless, frictionless spacetime.

The only explanation why the speed of light is 186,000 milers per/sec. is because the outer space, including inside the atoms, is that even.

Please note that in black hole where the gravitational force is so strong, not even electro-magnetic  light can escape. (proving that such gravitational force/pull is attraction gravity.but it is the spacetime gravity of Dr. einstein that is being sucked/pulled..by analogy, like a depressed trampoline.

Why isn't space so even that the speed of ight is six miles an hour? What about a million miles a second?

Perhaps in several billion years from now, when unbreakable, indestructible skein of outer space, spacetime of Dr. Einstein, due to continued expansion of the universe, is stretched, the tenseness, the evenness  of  such skein would make light travel at higher mileage per /sec.

Reading some notes on the internet it states that as in an atom, the electron has a spin rate of 186,000 miles per second so when an electron is ejected it is already at that speed without any accelaration. It's like being spun on a kids roudabout at a fast speed and you can't hang on and fall off. If the roundabout is spinning at say, 30 mph and you come off you also will be travelling at 30 mph.

No, electron has electro-magnetic speed at skein of Einstein, inside and ouside atom, thus speed is the same, while roundabout is physical, subject to gravity, atmospheric friction. etc.
