What are good ways to remove Radioactive  materials from water by filtration?

Is there another system?

How do nuclear plants clean any radiation from the water they use to cool the rods and reactors normally?

You really need to get to grips with the difference between radiation and contamination.

Anyway, all the normal techniques for purifying water (distillation, ion exchange, reverse osmosis etc) will remove almost all radioactive materials from the water.
The exception is tritium and that's frankly very hard to remove. Fortunately, it's not generally a major part of the radioactivity produced by a reactor and it's not very harmful (relatively).

Nuclear plants generally recirculate the cooling water so it matters less if it gets contaminated by radioactive materials. However they do purify that water (for other reasons), generally by sending it through ion exchangers and charcoal filters.

There's often a heat exchanger to a secondary loop to drive the turbine; which further contains the radiation.

Are we talking about how to clean up the sea near Fukushima?
Would dispersion do it, the ocean is pretty big.

No I was enquiring about cleaning the water, instead of dumping it into the sea.

Holding in tanks first if needs be. I really do not like the "sea is big" arguement, considering the rising acidity, increased plastic content, repeated oil spills and the dumping of toxic material, the sea is already in bad shape.
