How can a fruit fly survive in a microwave?

Every once in a while when I open the microwave door, I'm surprised to see a live fruit fly inside.
The last one, I quickly shut the door and turned the microwave on for an additional 20 seconds. The fruit fly appeared just fine afterwards. It was on the side wall of the oven.
