Antibacterial Surfaces..eg Chopping Boards
« on: 07/02/2007 23:26:05 »
Dear All,

Can someone tell me about the nature of Antibacterial Surfaces ? Like you would get in a chopping board ?

How long does it last ?..how do they apply it ?..is it an application or is it mixed it with the compound of the ' unit ' ?

Do they actually work ? Is there a toilet seat version ?

HUMMM. Me has never heard of antibacterial surfaces? Do you mean countertops that are built to be antibacterial without having to clean it with antibacterial? Do you mean Nonporus surfaces that do not hold bacteria.. ???? UH OH.. I fear I am confused..

The whole of the chopping board is impregnated with the antibacterial agent, when chopping foodstuff on the board the knife blade is effectively scraping/removing a layer of the board and thus revealing a new layer.

so i would guess that the antibacterial agent "could" last the life of the board.

Never heard of and antibacterial loo seat but Sainsburys, also sell antibacterial bin bags!

Hi Neilep,

No i don't think we know eachother. i used to frequent the ABC science forum, dr karl, but they are all pedants and spend too much time moaning about grammar and punctuation...

Two paul.fr's in the forum! two in the world is bad enough!!!

any how, from what i have read most studies dismiss the antibacterial products for the kitchen and reccomend using plain old bleach.

Hi paul.fr.

Thanks for clarifying that you are not my cousin.

MY paul.fr is not a member here anywyay..but I know he's a voyeur of the site.

I agree...these antibacterial things sound like a gimmick to me.

Thanks again and enjoy the site....you won't find that many pedants here...well..perhaps one or two !!  [;)]
