How to derive gradient of a function in polar co ordinates from the cartesian co ordinates

Can you convert the Cartesian coordinates into polar and work from there?

If your function lies on a plane with only one variable it is straightforward by translating the function to the origin. Otherwise you need spherical coordinates and may need to solve partial derivatives.
