« on: 05/06/2022 03:53:49 »
Hi

Does anybody have an idea how I can separate and obtain molybdenim from stainless steel that has molybdenum in it as an alloy?

I will appreciate  the feedback

It would be quite difficult involving acid dissolution followed multiple precipitation reactions and you would need detailed information on the chemistry of all the elements present. Some stainless steels and some hardened steels contain SMALL amounts of molybdenum. It would be far easier and cheaper to buy some.

Did I really say that?

If you are looking for a project, as well as molybdenum you might want to look at molybdenum sulphide grease as a starting  point.
You would be unlikely to find steel with more than 0.5% Mo.
