What is happening with this cat and a device implanted in it's head? The plug looks like a monitor plug. The image is from PETA animal rights group. Just wonder what the experiment is for and if it is worthwhile?

Looks dodgy to me too. A d-type connector with some oversize bolts. I know nothing about cgi but I have heard these sort of images are easily concocted.

Brain research requires accessing the brain.
- Doing early research on humans would be considered unethical until it has been proven to provide real benefits in animal trials.
- A lot of brain research was conducted on the nervous system of the worm C.Elegans; researchers have documented every neuron in its brain. ...it made scientific headlines a few years ago when some researchers discovered a new neuron that hadn't previously been documented!
- Most laboratory testing of mammalian brain function is done on rodents. Their brains are so complex that researchers struggle to understand it. Recently, optogenetics has been used, so there is an optical fiber connection to the brain, rather than an electrical plug

I Believe We both Know the Answer to it.
There is No Evidence to support the claim, & Alot of Evidence Against it.

I'm also Aware that it was the views of an Animal Rights Activist, hence bound to be Biased.

But i Still cannot Help myself from Believing his words.

I have Very Little understanding of Anatomies of Species.

But the closest match to the human species can only be a Human.

So for Clinical Trials to be Reliable, human testing is the Best bet.

But i also Understand that universities & research institutions would Not go thru with animal experimentations, if already proven to be unfruitful.
It would simply be a waste of their time, money, resources & cute kittens.

I do Not know how to explain it to You that when it comes to Animal Rights & specifically PETA, it's not really about the Facts or Evidences...it's rather about Ethics & Morals.

Hence even Irrationality at times seems like the best course of action.

I realise how Important & Beneficial clinical trials are, but I'm simply Not okay with them being performed Without Prior Consent of the participants.

i could go cherry picking on the internet to provide links of failed experiments & failed clinical trials & dead ends researches to support my beliefs...but i won't...so consider this as a Victory for yourself & smile & be happey!

When certain emotions are triggered, Rationality goes for a Toss.
Emotional Quotient ends up overshadowing & suppressing the Intelligence Quotient.

I Agree that the said Clinical Trials conducted to Defeat Amblyopia were Necessary & Important.
No doubt it would end up benefitting Millions of Children around the World.
Even Billions in the future.

I also Understand researchers handled the Kittens in a Humane manner, they were provided Adequate medications to mitigate Pain & were also Euthanised with proper conduct.

But alas, i still Wish they could have chosen death row inmates over the Kittens for the procedure.
Of course, with proper consent & Humane handling.
Maybe even with a possibility of sparing their Lives & setting them out on parole as a possible Reward for their willing participation.

I'm hopeful that maybe in the future things might Change in regards to Animal Testings.
Or maybe Not!

Your proposition is Correct.
The essence of this OP is PETA.
And it is related to Animal Cruelty & Suffering.
We both could/would/should Agree that Humans are also Animals.
But PETA has a narrow minded approach & concentrates only on the well being of Other Species.
Hence creating a separate/New OP is a valid proposal.

Anywhichways, seems like it's just U & I present in here.
& Perhaps We have pretty much driven this OP towards a Conclusion.
