What do you call an octopus with six legs?
« on: 06/03/2008 17:26:47 »
Fisherman caught an octopus in a lobster pot. On further inspection they found it had six legs. They sold the live animal to a Sea Life centre. It is now a major attraction. Animal rights people say that it should be released into the wild. Sea life said that the octopus is happy in its new environment. The thing I'd like to know is how can you tell when an octopus is happy and if it only has six legs what should it be called?

You can tell an octopus is happy if it's singing the score from The Mikado.

A six-legged octopus is called a six-legged octopus - or Bert [::)]

I think I saw some reference to it being called a hexapus.

Wouldn't make a good name for a James Bond film.

As long as it's properly cared for and housed in an appropriate habitat I don't see what's wrong with keeping it. Free food and what not. Stress levels in the octopus might be learned by observing its behavior. I assume that the six tentacles are due to a mutation or birth defect and not an injury?

They have named it Heather.

Why does an Octopus need so many legs anyway?

Well I'm glad we cleared that one up. I'm a sucker for a good octopus story.
