Why do I have the "musical ear" and what is it all about?
« on: 27/03/2008 21:09:53 »
I can just about listen to a song and just start playing it. Who come I can do it and like no one else is my whole school can? I'm a just a complete weirdo or something?

Is there any research out there that shows how many people are like I am? Is it gentitic? If so how come withing all my living relations no one else can do it?

And does anyone else on this site have that amazing ability?

Thanks Sim  [:)]

Pfff I would love to have that ability..

Do you have perfect pitch?

(Is this on a guitar by the way?)

Mmmm.. I think it is perfect pitch then.
Cos if it's the first note you choose and it's right, that means that you think its a C or a D etc..

perfect pitch is extremeley rare.

being able to work out the notes by listening to a piece of music, and play it without ever having been shown how, or seen the musical annotation is something most musicians can do.

some can just do it more quickly than others.

in fact, anyone, even a non-musician could eventually, after the third or fourth listen to say a single bar of music, and a little experimentation, be able to replicate those notes.

musicians are just quicker at it, and thats a combination of experience, and a finer judgement of pitch.

Yup I can do that too.. Except a few attempts at the notes. I can't just play a note and get it right first go.

So how come people that have this ear like me can't really read sheet music well? Or is that just me? I know all the notes and stuff, but I can't just look at it and play it.
