Can someone give me pro's and cons of "Norco, Morpine and Oxycontin?"
« on: 20/12/2009 05:37:34 »
The Norco is what we will use until Tuesday. We are discussing a more around the clock pain med to control my pain level and bring it down within a more tolerable level.

I am really scared of the Morphine and the Oxycontin which may be eliminated, as she said I have several existing conditions that could pose problems when the Oxycontin is used... so Tuesday, she will decide on a more effective pain reliever... She suggested the Morphine and said we will need to decide and weigh the pros and cons.. so could you help me weigh them with these medicines?

What are the differences, side effects, addition properties and do's and don'ts ? Help?

My worry is that the opiates work on the pain and thats good but they also knock me flat out on my back so then my life as I know it socially that is altogether lacking becomes nil at all.I go from insomnia to hibernation which is just as bad as insomnia..*sigh*...
I know they are all Opiod's so I have never heard of these fentanyl slow-release trans-dermal patches for regular chronic pain, or the Actiq-style “lollipops” for treating chronic “breakthrough pain” (brief intense episodes)! Breakthrough pain of which I get a lot as the meds are not strong enough to take away the pain..especially bad before the timed dosage comes due.. so they are hours shy of the next dose which is incredibly painful..

Are any one of them less harmful then the others?
I will check the link but am troubled by all that I have read in links... thanks Dave..

That seems so complicated to me...If you were experiencing constant pain no matter what position you were in and it is quite severe toping out over 10 on 1 to 10 scale...what would be your drug of choice for pain given these options? What would be your reasons?

I have a hard time in heat but the wet climate is proving to be really painful as well, although the summer is way better by far! I went today and we are going to give this new medication for  Arthritis a go,its called Arthrotec, for 10 more days with the Norco Then we will see where we are...

She says that the likely hood is that we will move on to the morphine.. and continue with the anti-inflammatory med also. We are waiting ten days as we need to see if further rash appears ..I have been having horrid itching again with the anti-inflammatory Arthrotec. I may be allergic.. we will see.
I am in the upper end of the ladder right now and have ben being treated for several years now for the pain.

I am not sure what to go with but she seems to think the morfine is the better of the two options, but is undecided at least as far as she is telling me thus far!
Thanks Dave your information so far is helpful... thank you!
