What was in "air cell A" batteries?

American pre war wirless magazines mentioned "Air cell "A" (filiment heating) batteries; what were their components ?

There is a most interesting discussion about Zinc-Air batteries, that oxidize Zinc as part of the generation of power.

Wikipedia also has a list of battery types.
