Actually Mam, I think this house was built in the 1930-40s...it has some rather unique features inside...some wonderful art deco fireplaces...stained leaded glass windows, .....and as mentioned in a previous post...in addition to other features...it has a bomb shelter in the back of the garden....so...assuming my house is the original one on this plot...it must be at least 65 years old.

The water has been there ever since we moved in here...over twelve years ago....when we did move in...we had to have a damp course put in and it's been fine ever since.

Occasionally, I lift the (hang on ).....(goes to lift floorboards and inserts his long probe to find the wetness...lol)


 well...for the first time in at least twelve years there is no lake beneath my house !!...it's still mulchy and gooey but it's dry (ish)....I am not surprised considering the temperature of the last week...

I would never have guesed it was that old, looking at your post. I like old houses, they have some really cool architecture! I have seen some of the pictures in the book that I bought, but am amazed at The buildings in London, I had no idea Sir!.....Karen

OK, I'll admit, my house is regarded as modern, 1970's; but much of the North-West of London was rapidly expanding in the interwar years (although I suspect that one of the houses I lived in during my pre-teen years, also in North-West London, a basement flat originally would probably have been occupied by servants who serviced the town house above, was probably pre WWI, but another flat just a few streets away which I lived in during me teen years would have probably been 1960's built).  The flats my half-sister lives in in Hampstead are also 1930s.
The old buildings are generally regarded as anything before the 20th century. Yes, there have been some listed 1930s buildings, such as the Hoover factory building on the A40, but when one considers that only a few miles from me one has Hatfield House, which the newer part of is Jacobean, and the older one was around in QEI's time (she spent her early years there, kept out of the way by her sister, QM).
Now I am just waiting for my commission from the English Tourist Board []

I think they are beautiful as for crossing them I can in a vehicle. I have a small fear of heights that I have been working on for some years now! I can do most of them, but some just make me down right dizzy!.....Karen

George, Your photo collection is incredible! The structures are amazing and exquisite! I have nary been a traveler maybe just a couple states mostly before 5 years of age. Oregon Idaho and Montana as adult. Texas Oklahoma and Washington as a child! Don't remember too much. Never much left my own County of my Birth! Thank you for sharing them. I will have to come back here and look at them often, as they are great!....Karen

Karen, Bridges are most fascinating...before my fire, I would research them in the US and make a road trip and discover off the wall places where some are never driven over anymore...it was wonderful!  Now all I can treasure is the memories...

Hey Loretta, They have a  foot bridge in a place three hours from me,  IN REDDING CALIFORNIA, It is made of Glass, exquisite really. I cant remember the designers name, famous guy did some great things in Europe. This bridge is really cool!!! Try to find it on the net, I know it is there. Maybe Bridges in Redding California......Karen

Hey Loretta, I remembered what it was called. Its called the Sun Dial Bridge. It was designed and built by a famous man , my husband said he is from Spain, Could not remember his name!....You have to call me if you do!...Karen

Sundial Bridge is interesting...it is a 23 million dollar project. Santiago Calatrava was the engineer...it just opened in 2004!  I will look up other works that he has done as well...pretty ingenious!  Turtle Bay...hmmm, I am trying to remember what else about turlebay is of importance...?
