Why does my radio de-tune itself over night?
« on: 21/01/2014 09:30:02 »
Hillary Thompson asked the Naked Scientists:

I listen to 702 on a Radio in my kitchen, it gives me perfect reception, but  I switch it off at night , and the following morning I have to readjust the dial as  the reception is very poor.

My question is why does it move off the Station every night ?

I love your show, thank you in anticipation.

Hillary

What do you think?

How is your radio tuned does it have a frequency synthesizer or is tuned by a variable capacitor ?
Could you let me know the make and model of your radio and the frequency of the 702 channel so that I could perhaps find a circuit diagram.
If the local oscillator circuit incorporates a ceramic variable capacitor I have had problems with these being affected by humidity.

My guess is temperature changes.
Please disregard all previous signatures.

As an electronic service technician I have often been confronted by this kind of problem if I could have more details of the radio in question I would like to give a more detailed answer
