Quote from: GoingCrazy on 17/01/2011 22:38:43As Counterpoints I believe pointed out and I have read just a moment ago, that "POIS is characterized by sneazing, runny nose, burning eyes...", I would do anything to trade for those symptoms. I believe our main POIS is mental. If it were an auto-immune reaction, shouldn't we be sneezing and having a runny nose? Because you're talking about cases when allergen gets into body via respiratory channels (like pollen, dust, perfume), and sneezing, runny nose and burning eyes are all consequent symptoms of rejection by respiratory system.

I am 26, male. I feel I have been suffering severely with this since about the age of 18. Although, I think there might have been issues beforehand, albeit, not anywhere as severe.Symptoms include-Brain fogExtreme fatigueAnxietyDepressionEmotionless in a sense (besides of course, the anxiety)Sensitivity to lightBlurred vision at timesThe worst at times seems to be a heightened fight of flight reflex. Where in normal physiological condition, things that would make one a little nervous, it seems I am physiologically unable to deal with, in direct correlation to where I am at on the POIS timescale. Rapid heartbeat...all that good stuff. And this isn't something that is psychological in my estimation, as I was the class clown in HS, very easy going and outgoing, and now things have changed to being so damn jittery it is awful. In exercise situations where I am putting myself under cardiovascular stress I also have an elevated heart rate. For example, I have a heart rate monitor, the other day, lets say "day 1" as it is called here, even before I started to run, my heart was at about 105, and on "day 7" it is much lower. This is not a one time scenario, but something I have noticed before consistently. And I quickly reach my upper rate level on the day 1 when I begin the workout, at a pace faster than I otherwise would.I also seem to have what might be an increased insulin sensitivity on the lower days(day 1,2,3). There is a stop sign I can view from my backyard which becomes blurry after a meal on these days, and I almost feel incapacitated. At 5 foot 9 and 185 pounds, with a relatively healthy diet I don't think I am a likely candidate for diabetes-especially since it is much more pronounced on the days lower on the time scale.I also have a heightened sensitivity to caffeine. It will REALLY make my heart race and keep me up all night. Some Solutions attemptedFish OilDoes seem to be of some benefit when taken right after an orgasm, the next day isn't as severe. I've read that there appears to be a dopamine connection here. One caveat, with consistent use of this, it seems to make me very antsy, and anxious, as if there is a balance to be reached with it and I overdid it.Multivitamin + Magnesium + Vitamin D There seems to be some benefit here. I do feel better on it, more relaxed.Protein supplement with all essential amino acids Moreso than the vitamins, I feel this helps, in fact, this being a recent addition in things I've tried, i've had some of the best feeling days I can remember after adding it.Vitamins and Protein are made with real food, probiotics included, none of that cheesy additive crap and synthetic material. I use Garden of Life brand for the multi and protein. However, I still don't feel right after I do it. This helps quicken the recovery, and lessen it, but it is still there. This has gotten in the way of my social life, education, job and I can't quite articulate how depressed and bitter this has made me...
One study from the University of Cincinnati of 1,073 women who sought information on semen allergy concerning their symptoms found 130 had the allergy. this maybe the same with POIS, there may be some POIS sufferers semen allergy doesnt apply to.- 88% of POIS sufferers had semen reaction- 29 of the 45 in Waldingers study.

You can get tired because of an allergy. I read that you can get tired because of a cyst. Before I heard about POIS I thought it was because of the cyst I have. All the inflamantions and reactions on the whole body is very bad for your mental state. And being sick with no medication or cure can make you a bit depressed. The other important thing is that stress worse the allergy symptoms.

Its about the size of a pea. Im gettin it taken off withn the next few weeks. Hopefully it will help. I had no idea it could make me tired.? Van how did they remove yours? Do they have to put you to sleep?

And it's true that I mostly have physical symptoms, including itchy and runny eyes, nose, and swollen joints, and flu-like bodily symptoms. However day 1 and sometimes 2 are accompanied by brain-fog and memory problems, usually very light other times more notable. But the other day when I "O"d two days in a row, I thought I was going to die. Probably my first experience with depression ever. So, I think it's a thing of degrees. One of my pet theories is that aside from the physical inflamation there is a swelling of the menegis that comes with the "alergy". Perhaps some are more disposed to that inflamation than to the other, and thus more brain-fog etc.
Ok so I am left at a crossroads: what to do to begin treatment?Do I approach an allergist and ask them to perform allergen immunotherapy with my semen?Do I approach my endocrinologist about the same thing, and also ask him to diagnose me with a testosterone deficiency and start me on supplementary?Do I find a new doctor, or some center (like the Human Sexuality Program, New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center)?Right now I have been working with my endocrinologist on this lately, so I'm trying to seem him again asap (Feb. 1st) I wonder if it will be a waste of time, and if I should go to a urologist instead. I feel discouraged after dealing with the medical bureaucracy, it's a lonely experience going through this...
I've been in touch with the Dr. responsible for the semen research at the univ. Of cincinnati, and am waiting for his rely. I'd suggest others try to contact him too!
