That depends on definition, Conscious being the opposite to asleepSelf awareIn controlWhat about if when you are conscious, your conscious actions are from a sub-conscious external control that you are not conscious of?In short everything you do may not be even you doing it, have you ever watched a movie called Gamer?Imagine a Robot with a radio control, press the button and the Robot moves, the Robot is unaware that it is moving, so how do we know we aren't All under control like the Robot and it is not in our ''programming'' to question the person with the control?

That was all quite easy to understand but your consciousness will not let you understand it. Let me try it this way , ''you are a robot'', you do not know you are robot, every action you do , every word you speak, every bit of time you think you are conscious, is a direct command in real time. So when you reply to ''this'', it is not even you replying , you are just following orders in real time.
But I think therefore I am is not thinking about what we are, we are ''energy'' processed by a ''shell'', without the shell you are no more than an unconscious ''energy''. How energy ever became conscious is beyond me, but I do know light can carry information such as the radio control signal, maybe a physical ''sims'' game could be a reality, we now have 3 d printers so maybe we are just a ''bio-circuit'' and consciousness is real time being controlled. I could talk about consciousness for ever, well as long as I live, beyond facinates me, I always wonder what it will be like, rather peaceful I imgaine.

Quote from: Alan McDougall on 13/06/2016 09:34:57Can we understand exactly what consciousness is and where it is Located?Brain functions have been mapped using electrodes : Electrical Brain Stimulation ... [ Invalid Attachment ] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_brain_stimulation#Effects
That proves nothing abut consciousness other than the brain reacting to physical stimuli. It is more about how we think and not what happens to the brain when it is poked about by people ...

It is more about how we think and not what happens to the brain when it is poked about by people ...Poking with electrodes in living creatures does reveal what part of the brain is responsible for what faculty. Being able to read, count, name objects, recognise faces are types of thinking , and can be lost if particular parts of the brain are damaged. That damage to those regions causes specific faculties to be lost proves those types of thinking reside within specific regions of the brain , rather than elsewhere.
All conscious entities could, if we had the tools to do it, be measured for their inter- connectivity, with other entities, both large or small and that consciousness itself, might quite possibly be the actual, literal relationship or connection between self- aware modules of the brain and the greater world outside of its confines. The brain being the hardware and the consciousness being the software, or non-physical part of a thinking human being."There has been speculation"? by a few scientists, that the conscious - self, might extend beyond the confines of the physical brain as some sort of quantum field. (I will try to get citation about this and return later) The Soul or mind?
