Yes, it's grim up North.  []

For your information Karen, at home it just melted straight away as it was too wet. On my way to work the snow was pretty heavy and had settled along the motorway going to Hull and in the fields.

The worst snow i remember was when i lived in Milton Keynes, man we used to have some bad winters there. I remember going to school in salapets and ski coats.

Milton Keynes in only about 20 miles away here - but often a few miles can make quite a difference if there are a few hills in between (just driving about 10 miles towards London from here can often have a marked difference in weather).

But then, Milton Keynes itself is quite a sprawling place, including some quite isolated villages, and some smeller townships, such as Northampton and Bletchley (which both technically belong to Milton Keynes, although they have clear identities and histories of their own).  Milton Keynes itself is just a small nondescript village, but then the Government decided that this village should swallow up half the countryside around it to become a new town.  Oh, and if i recall, the whole place is colour coded, to say nothing of having concrete cows (not sure what kind of milk they produce).

Yes, Milton Keynes the village and town are different. I used to live quite near the town centre, in a place called stantonbury, if you know it?

We used to bike ride to Northampton, there was not that much there at that time. The cows! i have no idea what they were for but MK did become more well known because of them.

And bletchley was popular for it's market, if i remember correctly.

Bletchley is the name of a town that was incorporated into the conurbation of Milton Keynes.  Nearby Bletchley Park is an old mansion that was made famous by its use during WWII to house the team that did work on breaking the German military codes that are said to have significantly foreshortened the war.
