I think it depends on how you define physics and which aspect of physics you're talking about. In general it could be Newton, Aristoteles or Einstein. In Germany they call Max Planck the "Father of modern physics".

It is rather impossible to trace the origin of physics back to merely one "founder", though the discussion is interesting. I believe that we need to think of the early Greek thinkers such as Thales, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates and Pythagoras. Even though they are all considered philosophers, our understanding of physics can most likely be traced back to them.

After Thought.

It does seem Incorrect to place forward & reward a Single Person for the efforts & accomplishments of the whole Species.

Even Bats, Frogs & Bunnies etc etc have played a vital role in Our collective achievements.

But yes, such questions might have Positive effects on young minds.
When they share info about their idols, they spread knowledge of their inventions & discoveries with it too.

Yes, everyone likes their scientist and considers him a genius. But let's face it.
Newton is the father of physics. Newton is considered one of the most important scientists in history.
 Galileo is the father of the most important aspect of scientific methodology, proof by induction from experimental or observational evidence. But neither of these could be considered the “father of modern physics.” That accolade would go to Einstein.

Personally I think it's got be Isaac Newton, he discovered some of the most fundamental thing and he is one of the first scientists we learn about in school so my vote is for Newton.
