Well, if you do reasonably well at a chemistry degree you can have a PhD to keep you out of mischief for an extra 3/4/(5) years... but it's not terribly well paid.
But might (I'm not sure, I'm still working on the first degree so far) mean you can then get a better (paid) job in industry when you're 25/26.
Or you can just go straight into industry (designing chemicals/processes for making chemicals, doing other directly chemistry related stuff).. or you can be a teacher- surprising number of people I know on my degree want to do that... or you can get bored of the whole idea and go into banking or marketing (well paid) or burger sales (not).
Incidentally, if anyone has any better ideas for chemists (especially organic/synthetic chemists) and wants to suggest them for round about summer '06...

Dean, what kind or research do you want to for the MOD ?...you need to get info from such companies such as British Aerospace, Marconi Space & Defence Systems and Underwater Systems, Plessey Radar, Lucas Aerospace etc...all these companies handle contracts for the MOD , as well as commercial stuff too.
