November 5th

I'm looking forward to fireworks night at home with my family tomorrow and a display at the local park tonight. I would hate to live in America cos you don't have them do you? Or do you have them on other occasions? New year must be one?

I think they have fireworks for independence day... is that right? It must happen later at night, presumably, as a firework display at 7:30 in July would be pretty disappointing.
I really like fireworks... exploding chemistry in the sky, what's not to love? But I'm not wildly keen on the idea of marking 5th November as significant... largely because I can't dissociate bonfires in my mind from the idea of burning someone to death, which doesn't strike me as cause for celebration no matter how much they may just have been thwarted in their attempts to blow up your parliament.
Um.. sorry. Apart from that, yeah, I shall be out "Oo"-ing and "Ah"-ing with the best of them this evening.

I never really think of it for the real reason. I just think it's a good excuse to have a great time.

As a child, the only fun in fireworks was making one's own (now very difficult, and probably illegal).
Now, don't really care for Guy Fawkes night, but I used to like (not been for many years) open air concerts which sometimes finished with a fireworks display synchronised to some of the music.

Oh My Gosh... In July, we wait till 10:00 here as it is dark and for 1 hour watch as the sky is filled with fabulous colors explosions of sparkles just filling the sky above your head... We shoot ours up over the bay, as they come down it feels as if they are spilling down all around your head.. fountains and fountains of beautiful color different shapes sizes and incredible color and sparkleing beauty!!! Its more then a couple It is a series of exploding sparkleing rain of joy!! Its incredible when you are underneath them... Glorious!! Michael you need to come watch one day!!! They are sold here two weeks pryor to the 4th of July,( Independence DAy) and you canpurhase for two weeks after if there are any available, They are usually sold out by the 4th though! We buy them and use them on New years also!! They really are beautiful!! The home fireworks, ones they sell to the public are very mild in comparrison to the ones the city buys..They are terrific!

Tomorrow night. That having been said, it is already beginning to sound like world war 3 out there tonight.
It is always a dispute as to whether we are celebrating that some catholic renegades were caught before they blew up the houses of Parliament, sometime back in the 17th century; or that they actually tried to blow up the houses of parliament (do we support their actions, and celebrate the brave but doomed heroes; or celebrate their torture and execution for their attempting to have done it).
Probably just a good excuse for Catholic bashing, to remember that those 'papists' tried to assassinate our king (OK, he was a Scottish King - but then, most of our kings were foreigners of one kind or another).
