HIGH MERCURY CONTENT IN FARMED SALMON?
« on: 14/07/2009 19:22:20 »
We are having Farmed Salmon tonight and have it once a week.

Does anyone know, is this too much on the grounds that someone told me that farmed salmon contains HIGH levels of mercury and that we shouldn't eat it more than once every 2 weeks.

I eat salmon on Sundays and Tuna 4 days a week, should I worry?

Anyway what are the symptoms of too much mercury?

Thanks!

Quote
The levels [of mercury] found in wild salmon were three times higher than in farmed salmon.

HIGH MERCURY CONTENT IN FARMED SALMON?

Thanks Chemistry4Me, for taking the time to reply to me

I am reading lots of conflicting information online as to the real risks of eating such a quantity of Salmon & Tuna (5 - 6 times a week).

I have been experiencing 2 health problems, which started around the time I changed to such a fish based diet. I now have quite itchy skin and am suffering slight memory loss, but these of course could be anything...

Should I be worried about my Methyl Mercury intake?

I wish there was some agreement by an independant food governing body as to the risks about this! I would love to find out more if anyone has anything to add, thanks

LOL.. I eat very little fish.. I like tuna and cod... imatation crab..etc.. but really not so muched Salmon although some smoked salmon with lowfat cream cheese and crackers is yummy and mixed with some of the more pungent cheeses..YUMMY!

If its shaped like a fish smells like fish and tastes fishy like some fish, and is still wearing its skin and head, Then I shall not be partaking of said fish!

LOL..For me it has had to come in baby steps as I really hated to eat fish the flavor kills me off!
