Dearest Fruitologists,

As a Sheepie I of course luff fruit....especially watermelons......I just luff them. Fruit as ewe all know was invented in 1923 and has been very popular ever since.

Look, here's some:

Ewe got the red, the green, the yellow, the orange....even brown....they're the main ones eh ?

But where's the blue ?..How come there's hardly (if any) any true blue fruit ?...even blueberries are not true blue..more like a purple !

There are a number of berries that are black/blue colored.

Blueberries & huckleberries can come in a variety of colors from reds to blues, some fairly light in color.


Anybody know what Blue Quandong is?


Ahh, I see it listed as "Edible, though not that palatable.".

I'm also seeing notes of blue raspberries, although I'm not sure if I've seen them.


I certainly have had both red and yellow raspberries.

Oregon Grapes are also a bluish color.  And, edible...  although a bit tart tasting.  Yep, I've tried them.


Concord type grapes are also a bluish color.

I've never seen a blue raspberry too !


Regarding the blueberries..are they truly blue?...Are they not like a purple ?.....................and I would not mind a try of a Quandong !..I imagine them being quite tart !  []




For the sake of debate...lets say that blue fruits are specific to berries....why so ?...why are there not blue fruits larger than a berry ? []

Hmmm...  I might add plums or prunes to your list.

Although they are somewhat purple, but the colors can vary.

Keep in mind that most of the fruits and vegetables that we eat today have gone through centuries, or even thousands of years of selective breading.  Perhaps early humans chose not to select for light "blue" colors, or at least initially didn't think colors were as important as sugars and flavors for selective breeding.

However, the plants, of course, evolved through millions of years of natural selection.

Perhaps "sky-blue" would be difficult for some insects and animals to see up in trees, so if the trees depend on the insects in the plant life-cycle, it wouldn't be a good choice.  On the ground, it doesn't provide much camouflage. I suppose you do get blue flowers, at least on small plants and shrubs, so being sky colored isn't a problem for pollination. 

Maybe you are just biased towards other types of fruit.
While I've eaten "Red Oranges"...  I've never had Blue Oranges.

Keep in mind that the interior of the fruit is not always the same color as the skin, so a apple may be red on the outside and white on the inside.  Likewise a banana is yellow on the outside and white on the inside.
