The Ice Age is Coming?
« on: 01/07/2013 15:12:27 »
As a boy the scientist thought we were headed into another ice age. So apart from global warming which is man made, was it so?

Almost certainly, but the natural cooling process takes a lot longer than the heating process, and the whole cycle runs for at least 500,000 years so it's hard to say when!

I think that with current knowledge, we (mankind) can fight us falling back into an ice age,
which would start by us not seeing summer anymore,
Cooling would start off by more ice (not less)  and more precipitation (mostly snow) in the NH
now think of a few methods, by which to stop this process?

Our exhaust is stopping this, right?

Almost certainly, but the natural cooling process takes a lot longer than the heating process, and the whole cycle runs for at least 500,000 years so it's hard to say when!

The cycles over the last few million years have been about every 100,000 years, with about 80% of the time during glacial periods, and about 20% of the time during interglacial periods.

There has been much debate about the overall trend during our current Holocene interglacial period.  Likely the heating would have been intense during the early phase, and the planet may be cooler now than 10,000 years ago.

And, of course, changes are slow, so while one might observe a significant temperature shift due to natural cycles over 1000 years, that spans several human lifetimes.

The big question is how will humanity's changes to the planet and the atmosphere affect the overall temperature trends over the next few millennia.  Evidence seems to indicate a slow warming trend likely caused by our power and vehicle emissions.  The question whether this will overwhelm the natural cycles remains to be seen....  perhaps thousands of years in the future.  We may quickly hit levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide that occurred prior to the recent climate fluctuations and multi-million year cooling trends.

Summers and winters are controlled by the axial tilt of the planet.  As long as the planet continues to have an axial tilt, we will still have summers and winters, although their severity may be dependent on the overall climate state.

Geophysicist says the mini ice age will start within a few years and will last 60-80 years.
US solar scientists have announced years ago that the sun appears to be headed into a lengthly spell of low activity, which means that the Earth is far from facing a Global Warming catastrophe and actually headed into a Little Ice Age.

According to geophysicist Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera at the University of Mexico, in about 5 years the “Earth will enter a “Little Ice Age” which will last from 60 to 80 years and may be caused by the decrease in solar activity.”

Here's the difference between climate science and real science. When I make a prediction, I invest a patient's life or my children's inheritance in it. All a climate scientist does is write another paper explaining why the first one was misunderstood.  Let's see Mr Herrera's money on the table before we hear his story.
