"With the release of Windows 11 by Microsoft, is Microsoft forcing people to upgrade (hardware) or buy new computers to meet Windows 11 specifications?"

Yes and No.

The new operating system will have new features that consume more RAM, CPU power and disk space than the old operating system.
- Microsoft would have tested the new operating system on new computers with the latest multi-core CPUs, large amounts of RAM and large hard disks - and it works fine.
- But if you have a 6 year-old computer with low-powered CPU and limited RAM, you will find the old operating system is noticeably faster than the new one; and that many of the new features are unusably slow. So there is no point in upgrading to the new operating system on an old computer.

At some point in time, Microsoft will cease supporting the old operating system with bug fixes and security updates, so you will be forced to buy a new computer, which will come pre-loaded with the new operating system.

Over the years I've had numerous computer upgrades, from 64kb of memory to 640kb of memory to a couple of MB, and on down the line.

I am currently running with 8GB of RAM, and my browsing doesn't like it one bit.

While a single upgrade might remain moderately stable, time will bring more upgrades, more powerful programs, etc, and more hardware upgrades.

One thing I've started looking more and more at are SSDs.  Some are mighty speedy, and would help significantly with both booting, and data swapping.

Yes. When a new operating system is released with more advancements than the previous, it obviously consume more RAM and needs a good processor than before to make it work faster and smoothly. And that's why company releases new requirements for such upgrades. If you try to use an advanced OS with slower processor and less RAM that it is designed for, then it will definitely make the device malfunction and works very slow.
I mean, Windows 10 works faster than windows 11 in such cases.

Note: Windows 11 is an optional upgrade only.
Anyway Microsoft will support windows 10 for only few more years. If you don't have a PC meeting new requirements, then you can wait and use windows 10 in my opinion.
