What we see from Earth (The Visible Universe) is roughly a sphere 13 to 14 billion light years in radius.

Light has been traveling from the most distant objects for so long that undoubtedly they would be much different today if they could be visualized without time delay.

There is no evidence for a physical repeat of objects in the Universe.  Would there actually be 2 earths?

Light doesn't necessarily follow a straight path, but again there is little evidence of light being bent around a complex shape such as a toroid.

Clifford - you are getting your units/dimensions mixed up.  The extreme visible universe is approximately 46 billion light years distant from us; ie we can see 13.6 billion years into the past (cos we can see the CMBR). The furthest/oldest stellar objects we can see are around 13.1 billion years old - http://arxiv.org/abs/1010.4312 about 30 billion light years away, and are red-shifted by 8.55.  As near as anything this is the light of the first stars. 

The difference between light years and year (which should logically be the same because it is light doing the travelling) is the background expansion of the universe.  The light from that galaxy mentioned in the article has been travelling for 13.1 billion years - but the object that emitted the light is now 30 billion light years away.  It is this universal expansion which has caused the huge red-shift (from the ultra-violet to the infra-red) - although the galaxy was moving away from us when it emitted the light this would not nearly be enough to red-shift light this much.
