I did a search on google about this..and came upon your forums.

Im having this PillCam procedure done on friday 5/5/06. And am abit suspicious about it now.

It says on the Intructions i received that

"Esophageal Capsule Endoscopy is associated with a very small risk of intestinal retention of the capsule, If this is the case it will have to be removed surgically or endoscopically."

They say "very small risk".  But who knows if this is accurate since we dont have decades of evidence to analyze here. And usually when a medicine has a very rare side effect, I am the one that gets those. Plus, this whole "intestinal retention" thing isnt too accurate. I mean, are there some really serious organs it could get stuck on? Im not too found on specifics of our digestion system.

So i dont know now.. What do you guys think?  Wish i had more evidence and data regarding this particular test.

If it works normally, its suppose to pass through my bowel. (obviously)

any input would be great.
thanks

Hi Mike 2110,
the only obvious reason to reject PillCam is if you have poor peristalsis,
 as this could cause "retention":-

Poor gut motility can be caused by vascular or neurological diseases.

So the nature of your intestinal disorder would determine whether PillCam is appropriate.
