Hello all,
I need some help.
My teacher asked me about " transport of liquid membrane" , especially Cd 2+ . but I really dont understand the way it works.
i really dont know what can I do now.
Can you help me, even an advice !
Thanks!

do you mean transport across the lipid cell membrane? i don't know what level your classes are, so I'm not entirely sure what you mean I'm afraid! unless i just don't know anything about the subject of course!

which transport are you talking about transport across the "lipid bilayer membrane" well there are different channels for the transport of ions please explain your question maybe i can help you out and actually this question is of physiology not the general science
please dont mind.

Well, actually my teacher gave me a text and requested me to tell him all about it till this August.
Here's the title:
Carrier- mediated transport of toxic elements through liquid membranes. Transport of Cd2+ from high salinity chloride medium through supported liquid membrane containing TBP/cyclohexan.
I think it's related with the biochem and the extraction, but in my book, which my teacher advise me to read, it has the rafinate phase, and I really can't find it in the text. It just has the strip and the feed solution, the organic phase, the solvent... so, I really feel confused [?].
so, if you have any idea, please tell me.
Thanks so much.

right, not what i thought you were talking about at all!
from what i can find, liquid membranes are man-made and are similar to the normal lipid biological membranes that we all know about (i.e. cell membranes) but they are made entirely of liquid, and are used in industrial processes to separate compounds. so in your case it is being used to extract cadmium from a saline solution. you can do a search on google and find a few pages that might help. here's a half-decent one i found just now:
http://www.rpi.edu/dept/chem-eng/Biotech-Environ/patillo/membrane.biochem/mem.html
I think you are interested in the supported liquid membrane, also called immobilised liquid membrane (ILM), as opposed to the emulsion liquid membrane (ELM). I'm afraid I have no idea about TBP/cyclohexan.
i hope I've helped at least a little, and good luck.

hay first of all i dont know what type of cell u r asking about! there are 2 types of cells which are animal cells and plant cells.oh i think animal cells have cell membrane but hay will reply u soon when gone study through on it
so good luch for ur best

really I don't know what kind of membrane in this case, i just know that all I have to do is finding the way Cd 2+ transport from high chloride medium into strip solution through liquid membrane.
Anyway,thanks for your help.[

if your teacher wanted to know about plant cells specifically they would have mentioned the cell wall, which is not present around animal cells. This is very permeable, so isn't really involved in the kind of transport you're talking about (across the membrane).
the membranes surrounding plant and animal cells are essentially identical (only really differing in expression of some plant specific or animal specific proteins. most will be the same), so if you're only talking about the membrane then the type of cell makes no difference. remember the phylogenetic tree: we all come from the same common ancestor, we're all very very similar.
