Strange as it seems liquorice can cause dangerously high blood pressure and dangerously low potassium levels (hypokalemia). It contains glycyrrhizinic acid, which sets off the mechanism which results in high blood pressure.
unless i've missed them, i have never seen a warning on a pack of liquorice. not good.
