I have been "googling" tinnitus since I got it 4 weeks ago after having wisdom teeth removed. The oral surgeon has wiped his hands and passed me onto a ENT specialist which I will be seeing in a few weeks time. I am researching like mad before then to understand what tinnitus is about.

The loud sounds of dental tools (conducted through your skull) may be to blame ...

Quote
Certain dental procedures such as difficult tooth extractions and ultrasonic cleaning can cause hearing damage via bone conduction of loud sounds directly to the ear. Wearing ear plugs will not guard against bone conduction.

What causes tinnitus?

My wife has Tinnitis which over the years has, fortunately been very mild.  In the last few weeks, primarily in and around our home and neighborhood, she is experiencing Loud high pitch tinnitis type sounds in her head that  fade away if we leave our neighborhood.  There is a new cell tower (looks like a giant flag pole) about 3/4 of a mile from the house.   Could the EMF/radiation from that tower be causing her distress?

Hi, I am sorry that you suffering from tinnitus. It is very intersting that exercise seems to hellp. There are indeed very many ways to treat tinnitus. After assessment and investigation, the first step is correction of any hearing loss. Then there are many tinnitus treatments such as: sound therapy, counselling, CBT, tinnitus retraining therapy, medications (a surprisingly large number have been studied and some have been found to help), self-help  and alternative treatments. Please see this long and pretty comprehensive article on tinnitus treatment:
newbielink:http://www.enetmd.com/content/tinnitus-treatment [nonactive]
It was compiled by a UK doctor and covers most tinnitus treatments.
The main page on the site about tinnitus is:

where there are several articles about tinnitus.
best wishes Alice

Hello. I have a tinnitus disease that does not go away for about 1 year. Did you find the cause of tinnitus or a treatment method for tinnitus? I have tried all home remedies but it doesn't work
