Chicken, the egg came later!

So, what did that chicken come from, or did it morph during it's life?

This is very clear. As Jolly said, the egg came first because what laid the egg, wasn't quite a chicken.

OK, just to confuse the issue. The eggshell is formed round the embryo. From a genetic point of view that embryo is a chicken and it's there before the eggshell. The chicken is there before the first chicken's egg.
Of course eggs had been around for ages before chickens evolved but the chicken was there before its egg.

Oooh, that's a smart one!, But, a chicken embryo, yes indeed. But a "chicken"? Is a human embryo a "human"? If all goes well, it'll be one, but as it's not yet born, it only has latent "humanness". Or perhaps at the rather subjective age definition for abortions is the embryo defined as a "human" rather than a collection of cells, which could then (perhaps) be related to the chick.

And there is another semantic definition. When it's young, it's a chick, and not a chicken. This stage comes after being a chick, and therefore the egg comes first!

Except that chicken is also a term for a young bird and then we get pullets and  cockrells then hens, and cocks.
