All day yesterday I had that queasy feeling in my tummy that meant I was going to have the runs. Sure enough, today it happened.
What causes that feeling? What is it about having a tummy upset or the runs that makes your tummy ache?

Experience! LOL
Maybe our stomach acid is working over time time trying to help us and all the extra stomach acid causes the extreme breakdown of all of our food in an attempt to eradicate the bug that has invaded our body!
Could be foreign bacteria or other germs, that the stomach sees as trouble..So maybe it is just our body taking up arms to help us by breaking down and illuminating the contents in a much tougher method then usual in an attempt to heal itself!

I don't think it is extra juices flushed through the intestines so much as the bowels failing to recover water before the whole lot is flushed out (but I could be wrong).

I noticed that drinking hot tea made the feeling stronger whereas cold water subdued it slightly. Does that give a hint as to the cause?

Perhaps your tummy was confused !!..It may have thought it was a contestant on Countdown and mistook exercising it's bowels...instead of it's vowels !!

That brings to mind a song. I can't remember who sang it...
I used to wake up early in the morning,
And listen to the rumbling of my bowels.
And as my sphincter was yawning,
That's when I'd practice my open vowels.
I've remembered... it was Arthur Brown!

Knowing Arthur Brown...he'd almost certainly set fire to his bowel movements !!
